Volgograd Metrotram in Metro4All

18.03.2015

Metro4All service is now available in Volgograd. You can find an accessible route there with our web app and mobile app.

Volgograd is a unique case since it’s our first attempt to spread our service to the tram metwork. There is a so called “Metrotram” in Volgograd – tram network with underground parts. As opposed to other subway networks in Russia, in Volgograd a subway line (6 stations) is not separated from a tram line, which leads to problems with lines visualisation. Some of these problems we’ve already encountered in Amsterdam where similar system is functioning.

Most of Volgograd stations are not that complicated:

2Metrotram line services 2 routes: СТ-1 (Ploschad Chekistov – Traktorny Zavod (VGTZ)) and СТ-2 (Yelshanka – Stadion “Monolit”). If you board on the different stations you might use different types of tramway cars. In some of them you can encounter problems with steps and handrails installed on the entrance into the car.

Revolving turnstiles are installed in Volgograd subway. Sometimes there is a ticket inspector in the booth, but more often not, since tickets are checked in the cars.

Similar to other Russian subways there is a lot of single steps at the Metrotram entrances in Volgograd.

Total numbers for Volgograd Metrotram:

  • There are 80 entrance and exit routes at 22 stations.
  • None of the stations is equipped with elevators or wheelchair platforms.
  • Escalators are installed at 4 stations – Profsoyuznaya, Pionerskaya, Komsomolskaya, Ploschad Lenina.
  • There are no routes accessible for wheelchair users at underground Metrotram stations. Average number of steps to climb while entering/leaving the station – 30 steps. All overground stations except Ploschad Chekistov are accessible for wheelchair users.
  • For parents with baby-strollers all 16 overground stations are accessible.
